Block Printing with Aerin and Noah

Yesterday we did block printing for our legends that we wrote. First, we did our own sketch on a paper that illustrated part of our legend.

These were the steps to block printing:

  1. We retraced our sketch with a dowel (wooden stick that looks like a pencil) onto a foam board.
  2. We went to a table that we had to choose which color we want. The paint colors were red, yellow, green, and white.
  3. We rolled the color we picked on our foam board. It was important not to put too much paint on the board because otherwise we would not see our design.
  4. We got a piece of brown paper.
  5. We put our foam board with the paint on a plastic template.
  6. We got a roller and put the brown paper on top of the foam board and rolled it.
  7. After we gently took off the brown paper, and got a nice print!

Noah: My legend is about how the mountains were made. They were made when water rose and the ground had an earthquake and it formed big mountains.

Aerin: My legend is about the Punahou Spring. It was created when there was a drought in Hawaii. A daughter named Ashley imagined her friend saying, "Pull out your hala tree and you will find a river." Ashley told her dad about her dream, but the dad does not believe her. However, the dad says "She has never lied before." So they pull out their hala tree and found a spring. The mom says "Ka Punahou, water!"
