Ka Papa Lo'i O Kanewai

We visited two different lo'i: Ka Papa Lo'i O Kanewai and Papahana Kualoa!

The similarities was that both rivers flow good or smoothly. Also that they both had mounds of mud around the kalo or taro. They both had at least one hala tree!

The differences between Ka Papa Lo'i O Kanewai and Papahana Kualoa was that the water was different temperatures. On Friday, at Papahana Kuaola, the water was colder. It was colder because Papahana Kualoa was closer to the mountains. Ka Papa Lo'i O Kanewai was a little farther from the mountains, so the water was a little warmer than Papahana Kualoa. Also Papa Lo'i O Kanewai had less land than Papahana Kualoa. Papahana Kualoa had a lot of land. So it had more lo'i patches. They both looked very different because Papahana Kualoa's lo'i patches were separated and Ka Papahana lo'i patches were together. We learned about two brothers. One brother had the power of salt water and the other brother the power of the fresh water. The brother who had the power of fresh water used an o'o stick and stuck it into the ground and the fresh water spring would come out. Our favorite thing was when we picked up different leaves and put it into a wheel barrow and took the wheel barrow to a lo'i and poured it into the lo'i for nutrients or fertilizer. :) ;)
